As part of the LIFE-ZEPAURBAN project multiple actions have been carried out designed to improve the conservation and management of breeding colonies in urban ZEPAs and also to find out more about the feeding areas on which the urban populations of lesser kestrels depend for their conservation. The results of the various actions of the LIFE projects have included very valuable information on the species from all over the region; this information has served to develop various normative documents which will contribute towards improving the situation of the species. In this sense two of the major results of the project are the Habitat Conservation Plan (Action A3) and the declaration of new urban ZEPAs (Action A5). The Conservation Plan has already been drawn up; it should be stressed that its scope of application is the whole of the range of distribution of the species in Extremadura. As for the declaration of new ZEPAs for the conservation of the lesser kestrel, the aim is to declare four new ZEPAs: the lesser kestrel colony of Alcollarín, the lesser kestrel colony of Escurial, the lesser kestrel colony of Torre de Miguel Sesmero, and the lesser kestrel colony of Almendral.

Both normative documents have been published on the transparency portal of the Regional Government of Extremadura and can be consulted at the following link: http://gobiernoabierto.juntaex.es/transparencia/web/p-transicion-ecologica-y-sostenibilidad

On the other hand, as for Action A4 the adaptation of the town planning regulations of those municipalities which had no technical measures designed to achieve the conservation of the lesser kestrel is at a very advanced stage. So far Belvís de Monroy, Brozas, Fuente de Cantos, Garrovillas de Alconétar, Guareña, Ribera del Fresno, Trujillo, and Zafra have initiated the proceedings of the specific modification of the current town planning concept so as to join the municipalities which had already included measures in their documents.

As for the revision of the limits of urban ZEPAs and their zoning (Action A5), this document was already submitted to the Environmental Advisory Committee last July together with the revision of the limits of other spaces of the Natura 2000 Network of Extremadura.
