Since the first SPA was declared within an urban center in Extremadura in 2004, this pioneering initiative has been widely accepted by different groups such as local and regional governments and conservation NGOs. However, while the network of urban SPAs in Extremadura grew to 19 declared spaces, no other region in the world had declared a building or group of buildings as a protected space because of its biodiversity value.

On the 17th, 18th, and 19 of May, the XI City of Cáceres Bird Festival will be held, organized by the General Directorate of Tourism and with the collaboration of the General Directorate of the Environment, Cáceres Provincial Council, and Cáceres City Council. Within the context of this festival, on Friday the 17th we invite you to the VII Conference on “URBAN SPAS OF EXTREMADURA.

Like last year, the General Directorate of Libraries, Museums and Cultural Heritage and the General Directorate of the Environment of the Government of Extremadura have started visits to all the buildings for which they have responsibility during autumn and winter 2018/2019.

The VI workshop “URBAN SPAs OF EXTREMADURA. CONSERVATION AND TOURISM” will take place on 18th May, organised by the General Directorate of Tourism and The General Directorate of the Environment of the Government of Extremadura, as part of the City of Cáceres Bird Festival (www.festivaldelasavescaceres.com).
