We are continuing with the lesser kestrel census as part of the LIFE-ZEPAURBAN project

To continue with the protocol established by the scientific committee (action F2), a second visit is being made to find out the number of breeding pairs present in the sphere of activity of the project, this time to coincide with chicks in the nests.

The LIFE-ZEPAURBAN project takes part in the LIFE informative programme Congress of the European Union 2014‐2020: LIFE 2017 call

The congress will be held tomorrow (16th June 2016) on the Badajoz campus. It has been organised by the Universidad de Extremadura in collaboration with the Agrofood Technological Centre of Extremadura (Centro Tecnológico Agroalimentario Extremadura, CTAEX), the General Secretariat of Science and Technology and the General Office for Outside Action of the Regional Government of Extremadura, the Enterprise European Network (EEN) of the FUNDECYT/Scientific and Technological Park, and Extremadura Avante.

The LIFE-ZEPAURBAN project participates in the V Technical Congress of the City of Cáceres Bird Festival

The activities of the Bird Festival include in particular the congress entitled “Urban ZEPAs: conservation and tourism”, which has given special importance in its fifth edition to the LIFE-ZEPAURBAN project.

The project begins to carry out the work on the roof of the Church of La Purificación of Almendralejo

Within the framework of this Action C2 "Adaptation of nesting sites on buildings managed by the State Office of Libraries, Museums, and Cultural Heritage", part of the roof and the tower of the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Purificación de Almendralejo will be remodelled to avoid filtrations in the building and ensure the permanence of its important colony of lesser kestrels.

Within the framework of action A1 the first lesser kestrel census has begun.

New nest boxes were installed under the eaves of the roof of the Church of La Purificación of Almendralejo

One of the key actions of the LIFE-ZEPAURBAN project is action A6, the industrial manufacture of mortar-cork nest boxes for the lesser kestrel. The main objective is to test the efficiency of a new design and materials for the construction of nest boxes for this species with improved technical and ethological conditions that allow the improving of its breeding success.
