Before leaving on their autumn migration to their winter quarters in Africa, lesser kestrels assemble in roosts that may contain as many as thousands of individuals from different areas. These roosts are established in various locations but mainly in isolated trees or on overhead cables. They are generally used by the species year after year and their follow-up will improve our knowledge of the evolution of the population.

Five roosts are currently known in the autonomous region of Extremadura of which joint censuses were taken on 17th August as is contemplated in action A1 of LIFE-ZEPAURBAN. The count will be repeated on the 31st of the same month with the aim of detecting possible variations in lesser kestrel roost occupation.
